Celebrating the Talent in Everyone - over 2,500 schools representing 1,000,000 students signed up in just 3 months

Client Name: Creative Partnerships; Department for Children, Schools and Families; Talent and Enterprise Task Force; Arts Council
Project Name: Shine Week
Website (URL): http://www.shinearchive.co.uk/

Working closely with Creative Partnerships and the Department for Children, Schools & Families, we developed a social networking website to celebrate the talent of young people across England and Wales. A resounding success since its inception in 2008, attracted over 2,500 UK schools representing over 1,000,000 students in just three months.

The web site utilised the power of social networking to exceed targets and reach over 10% of schools in the country. Children from across the UK used the website to showcase their talents by uploading images, audio and video clips, and then rating and commenting on the content. With a secure registration facility manually double checked, we ensured that sensitive data was, and continues to be, protected at all times.

The site became home to over 3,000 multimedia uploads from almost 2,500 schools representing about 1,000,000 students. Showcasing over 300 unique talents, the website was featured on BBC 1 Breakfast, BBC 5 live, PM.gov, Channel 4 and nationwide in other radio and print media.

Built in only a few months, the web site quickly became a roaring success, and not only an integral part of the project, but the backbone of it.

What the client said

"Brightlemon was appointed to build www.shineweek.co.uk for the first national schools festival week celebrating the talent of all young people Shine 2008.

The site was the ever-present tool that formed the back bone of the event and played a vital role in our reaching targets of 10% of the nation's school population, with over 2,500 schools and organisations registering and over 1 million students and teachers participating directly during the festival week many of them uploading participating also on line. Students and teachers used the site to upload and showcase their talents in the form of text, images, audio and video files, while rating and commenting on each others work.

Schools from all over England were represented on interactive Google maps and features such as the blogs and forums enabled students and teachers to interact on the site.

The CMS build by Brightlemon helped us manage registration, validation and content on the site and create a safe user friendly environment.
We are now in the process of extending our contract with Brightlemon to refine the site for the Shine 09 week."
