Brightlemon London has been chosen by British Rowing to build a new sports social network. Incorporating a range of community and web 2.0 functionality, the project aims to break the perception of rowing as being a hard and time consuming pursuit.

Entitled Explore Rowing, the project will enable rowers of all ages and skill levels to find a local club, participate in a range of rowing activities and discover more about the sport. The social network will play an integral part in achieving these objectives.

About the Explore Rowing Social Network

Explore Rowing social network logoExplore Rowing is British Rowing’s new programme to make the sport more flexible and promote different types of rowing alongside the traditional competition pathway. The social network will expand the options available to rowers and encourage them to get involved in rowing.

The programme will make a major contribution to British Rowing’s target of increasing the overall number of UK rowers.

Aimed primarily at those who have not considered rowing as a sport before, Explore Rowing plans to present a more flexible, gentler alternative to participating in the sport. The social networking web site will contain the following features:

  • Groups: Like minded individuals will be able to create and join groups
  • Clubs: Each registered rowing club will be able to have a homepage on the site and users will be able to search for clubs near their postcode
  • Profiles: All registered members will be able to create personalised user profiles
  • Routes: The web site will display particular routes on waterways across the country with key features marked on them
  • Challenges: Challenges will display a time/distance completion track – users will be able to give information about challenges and mark their progress
  • Events: Clubs and groups can host and publish events which users can sign up to
